Steve Stone Marquee

b. July 14, 1947 · San Francisco Giants 1971–1972, Chicago White Sox 1973, 1977–1978, Chicago Cubs 1974–1976, Baltimore Orioles 1979–1981

He went 25-7 with a 3.23 earned run average and nine complete games for the 1980 Orioles, who won 100 games and finished second anyway, and took the Cy Young Award with 100 points of 140 and 13 of the first-place votes. It was the only All-Star selection of his career.

Eleven seasons gave him 107 wins against 93, a 3.97 earned run average, 1,788 innings and 43 complete games. He had never won more than fifteen in a season before 1980 and never pitched a full season after it: tendinitis held him to twelve starts and a 4-7 record in 1981, and he retired that winter at thirty-four.

He went into a broadcast booth almost immediately and stayed for four decades, working Cubs games alongside Harry Caray and later calling the White Sox. The 1987 ballot gave him no votes at all out of 413 cast.
