Stan Williams Marquee

b. September 14, 1936 · Los Angeles Dodgers 1958–1962, New York Yankees 1963–1964, Cleveland Indians 1965, 1967–1969, Minnesota Twins 1970–1971, St. Louis Cardinals 1971, Boston Red Sox 1972

In the ninth inning of the third playoff game against San Francisco in October 1962, with Los Angeles two outs from the pennant, he walked Jim Davenport with the bases loaded to force in the tying run and the Giants went on to win the game and the flag. He had gone 14-12 that season and was traded to the Yankees that winter.

Fourteen seasons gave him 109 wins against 94, a 3.48 earned run average, 1,764 innings and 43 saves. He was 14-10 with a 3.00 in 1960 and won a World Series with the 1963 Dodgers, though he had been traded away by then and got his ring from the 1965 Cleveland side of the ledger instead.

He was six foot five and threw at hitters as a matter of policy, keeping a list in his locker of men he intended to knock down. He became a pitching coach for six clubs and worked into his seventies. He died in 2021, at eighty-four. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
