He was 20-8 with a 3.18 earned run average in 1991, finished second in the Cy Young voting and started two games of the World Series Minnesota won. He was twenty-three and in his second season. On April 27, 1994 he no-hit Milwaukee for the same club.

Fifteen seasons gave him 142 wins against 136, a 4.59 earned run average, 2,360 innings and 51 complete games. Baltimore signed him in 1995 and he threw 220 innings or more in four straight seasons there, going 16-13 in 1998.

Elbow reconstruction at thirty-two effectively finished him; he pitched parts of four more seasons for four clubs. He was never an All-Star. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
