Sandy Alomar played 1,481 games at second base and then produced two sons who played in the majors as well: Roberto, a Hall of Fame second baseman, and Sandy Jr., a six-time All-Star catcher. For a stretch in the late 1980s all three were in professional baseball simultaneously.
His own career had a peak in California, where he played every game of the 1971 season and much of the two around it, running a consecutive-games streak past 640. His All-Star selection came in 1970, when he collected 179 hits batting leadoff.
Born in Salinas, Puerto Rico in 1943, a switch-hitter, Alomar stole 227 bases and finished with 1,168 hits across seven clubs. He died on October 13, 2025, six days short of his eighty-second birthday.
