Rudy York Marquee

Rudy York broke in as a catcher for the Detroit Tigers in 1934, moved to first base by 1937, and stayed there through stops with the Red Sox, the White Sox and the Athletics before retiring in 1948.

He batted .275 with 1,621 hits over 1,603 games, hitting 277 home runs and driving in 1,152 runs, power numbers that stood out in the era he played.

He was named a Baseball Magazine All-Star twice and a Sporting News All-Star once, part of a run of seven All-Star selections between 1938 and 1947.

Born in Ragland, Alabama, on August 17, 1913, he batted and threw right-handed. He died on February 5, 1970.
