He went 15-10 in 1975 and 15-13 with a 3.11 earned run average in 1976 for Chicago clubs that finished nowhere, then lost 16 in 1977 and 13 in 1978 for the same reason. Fifteen seasons gave him 108 wins against 134, a 4.17 earned run average, 2,188 innings, 47 complete games and 10 shutouts.
Montreal signed him in 1981 and he went 9-7 with a 3.05 earned run average in the strike-split season that produced the only postseason in the franchise's history. He shut out Los Angeles in the League Championship Series and started the deciding game, leaving it tied 1-1; the Expos lost it on a home run in the ninth.
The next year he went 4-14 for the same club. He pitched for seven organizations in all, won 13 for Oakland in 1984, and finished in 1987 at thirty-six. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
