He appeared in 1,058 games across eighteen seasons, which is eighth on the all-time list, and won World Series rings with Toronto in 1992 and 1993 and Boston in 2004 and 2007. He recorded the last out of the 1992 Series as a rookie, fielding a bunt.
Eighteen seasons gave him 141 saves, 75 wins and a 3.63 earned run average across 1,204 innings, and not one All-Star selection. He pitched 172 games for Boston in 2005 and 2006 alone, at thirty-nine and forty.
He was a hunter who wore camouflage undershirts and made no secret of his politics in a clubhouse that found it funny. He won the Lou Gehrig Award in 2007. The 2014 ballot gave him no votes at all.
