Merv Shea Marquee

Shea's largest season came in 1933, split between Boston and St. Louis. He played 110 games, collected 81 hits, drove in 35, scored 27 and drew 47 walks while batting .242. Every counting total was a career high.

Eleven seasons gave him 263 hits, 39 doubles, five home runs, 115 runs batted in and a .220 average across 439 games. Shea caught 407 games. His 189 career walks helped offset the modest average.

Detroit brought Shea up in 1927, and he hit a career-best .290 with 47 hits and three home runs in 1929. After his two-club 1933 season, he played for the White Sox and Dodgers before returning briefly to Detroit in 1939. Five years later, Philadelphia gave him his final major-league appearances in 1944, extending his record across eighteen calendar years and six club identities. He died in 1953, at fifty-two.
