He hit 24 home runs with 84 runs batted in for Minnesota in 1995 and took the Rookie of the Year award with 105 points of 140. In 1996 he hit .309 with 176 hits, 46 doubles and 111 runs batted in, at twenty-six, and looked like the next thing.

Then his back and his knees went. He did not drive in more than 69 runs in any season after 1996 and he played 100 games in only three of the seven years that followed. Nine seasons gave him 938 hits, 192 doubles, 122 home runs, 540 runs batted in and a .274 average.

Baltimore signed him for 2002 and got 18 home runs; a hamstring and then a back injury ended it in 2003, at thirty-four. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
