Lena Blackburne Marquee

Blackburne's busiest season came in 1914, when he played 144 games for the White Sox. He collected 105 hits, scored 52 runs, stole 25 bases and drew 66 walks. The games, hits, runs, steals and walks were career highs.

Eight playing seasons gave him 387 hits, 39 doubles, 23 triples, 139 runs batted in and a .214 average across 550 games. Blackburne appeared at shortstop 213 times, third base 180 times and second base 144 times, making versatility the central feature of his playing record.

Blackburne played for Chicago, Cincinnati, Boston and Philadelphia before returning to the White Sox organization. He managed 232 games for Chicago in 1928 and 1929, going 99-133. His 1928 club split its 80 games under him evenly before the 1929 team finished 59-93. Blackburne also made his final playing appearance that year, nineteen years after his debut. He died in 1968, at eighty-one.
