Justin Upton Marquee

Arizona took him first overall out of a Virginia high school in 2005, three years after Tampa Bay had taken his brother B. J. second overall. Atlanta acquired them both before the 2013 season and put them in the same outfield. Justin hit 27 home runs that year and B. J. hit 9, and the experiment was over inside two seasons.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,754 hits, 325 home runs, 1,003 runs batted in, 785 walks, 151 stolen bases and a .261 average, with four All-Star selections and three Silver Sluggers. He hit 28 or more home runs in five different seasons for four different clubs.

Six clubs used him and none for longer than the six years Arizona had at the start. He was signed to large contracts twice, in Detroit and then in Anaheim, and the second one ended with him released in 2022 at thirty-four with a year still to run. He is not yet on a Hall of Fame ballot.
