José Offerman Marquee

b. November 8, 1968 · Los Angeles Dodgers 1990–1995, Kansas City Royals 1996–1998, Boston Red Sox 1999–2002, Seattle Mariners 2002, Minnesota Twins 2004, Philadelphia Phillies 2005, New York Mets 2005

He came up as a Dodger shortstop who could not field the position — 42 errors in 1992, 37 more the year after — and became something else entirely in Kansas City: a second baseman who hit .303, led the American League in triples in 1998 with 13 and again in 1999 with 11, and made the All-Star team twice, four years apart.

Fifteen seasons gave him 1,551 hits, 252 doubles, 72 triples, 772 walks, 172 stolen bases and a .273 average. He hit .315 with 191 hits for the 1998 Royals and .294 with 172 for Boston the following year.

He is from San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic and played there and in the minor leagues after 2005. In 2007, playing in an independent league, he charged the mound with a bat and injured two men, and was arrested and banned from that league. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
