José Hernández Marquee

He struck out 185 times in 2001 and 188 in 2002, and in the last week of that second season Milwaukee stopped playing him, with the single-season strikeout record — Bobby Bonds's 189 — one away. He said publicly that he wanted to play. The club sat him anyway.

Fifteen seasons gave him 1,166 hits, 168 home runs, 603 runs batted in and a .252 average, with an All-Star selection in 2002, when he batted .288 with 151 hits and 24 home runs from shortstop. Nine clubs used him.

He was Puerto Rican, from Vega Alta, and played shortstop, third base, second base and the outfield. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
