Joe Vosmik Marquee

In 1935 he had 216 hits, 47 doubles and 20 triples, the most in the league in all three, and hit .348. Buddy Myer of Washington hit .349. Vosmik sat out to protect his lead, was talked into playing, and lost by a point. He finished third in the Most Valuable Player voting.

Thirteen seasons gave him 1,682 hits, 335 doubles, 92 triples, 874 runs batted in and a .307 average. He drove in 117 for Cleveland in 1931 at twenty-one and led the American League in hits again in 1938 with 201 for Boston.

He was a Cleveland boy who came up with the Indians and was the most popular player on the club before they traded him. He managed in the minor leagues and scouted for Cleveland after. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1962, at fifty-one.
