Sugden's largest hit total came for the St. Louis Browns in 1904. He played 105 games, collected 93 hits and drove in 30 while batting .267. His best average had come with Pittsburgh in 1896, when he hit .296 with 89 hits.

Thirteen seasons gave him 696 hits, 72 doubles, 48 stolen bases, 283 runs batted in and a .255 average across 836 games. He caught 709 games but also played 76 at first base and 24 in the outfield. Sugden made one scoreless pitching appearance in 1902.

Pittsburgh brought him up in 1893. He later moved through the National League's St. Louis Browns and Cleveland Spiders before joining the White Sox and the American League Browns. After six seasons away from the majors, one final game for Detroit in 1912 closed his career. He died in 1959, at eighty-eight.
