He went 13-10 with a 2.95 earned run average for Tampa Bay in 2011 and took the award with 102 points of 140 and 17 of the first-place votes, beating Michael Pineda and Mark Trumbo. He had gone 4-0 in four starts as a callup the year before.
He gave the Rays another 31 starts at 3.10 in 2012 and won a Gold Glove, then lost the strike zone: 5.17 in 2013, elbow surgery in 2014, and a trade to Arizona. Philadelphia got two useful years out of him in 2016 and 2017.
Ten seasons gave him 76 wins against 75, a 4.13 earned run average, 1,269 innings and 929 strikeouts for five clubs. He finished with Washington in 2019 at thirty-two. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
