Jay Clarke Marquee

Clarke's sharpest offensive season came with Cleveland in 1906. He hit .358 with 64 hits in 179 at bats across 57 games, scoring 22 runs and driving in 21. It was the only season in which he topped a .300 average.

Nine seasons gave him 390 hits, 64 doubles, 20 triples, six home runs, 127 runs batted in and a .254 average across 506 games. Clarke caught 462 games and appeared only four times at another position, all at first base.

Clarke debuted in 1905 and appeared for both Detroit and Cleveland that year. He stayed with Cleveland through 1910, then played for the Browns in 1911. After seven seasons outside the majors, he returned with Philadelphia in 1919 and Pittsburgh in 1920. That final chapter stretched his career across sixteen calendar years. He died in 1949, at sixty-six.
