Quirk lasted eighteen consecutive seasons by handling several jobs. He caught 525 games, played 118 at third base and also appeared at first base and in the outfield. His largest season came for Kansas City in 1987, when he played 109 games and set career highs with 70 hits and 33 runs batted in.
He finished with 544 hits, 100 doubles, 43 home runs, 247 runs batted in and a .240 average across 984 games. Quirk never reached 300 at bats in a season, and five of his career home runs came in 1987.
Kansas City employed him for parts of eleven seasons across three stints, interrupted by Milwaukee, St. Louis, the White Sox and Cleveland. In 1989 he moved from the Yankees to Oakland to Baltimore, then returned to the Athletics for his final three seasons. Quirk later managed one game for Kansas City in 2001, a loss.
