Hank Severeid Marquee

Severeid gave the Browns unusually strong offense from behind the plate in 1921 and 1922. He hit .324 with 153 hits and 78 runs batted in in the first season, then .321 with 166 hits and another 78 runs batted in the next. Those were the two largest hit totals of his career.

Fifteen seasons gave him 1,245 hits, 204 doubles, 539 runs batted in and a .289 average. He caught 1,225 games, while his brief work at first base, third base and the outfield totaled only 17. St. Louis employed him for eleven seasons, the long center of a career that began with Cincinnati.

Severeid moved from the Browns to Washington during 1925 and from the Senators to the Yankees in 1926. That final season closed a 1,390-game career. He received Most Valuable Player votes in 1924, and the 1948 Hall of Fame ballot gave him one vote of 121. He died in 1968, at seventy-seven.
