Born May 21, 1906
Bradenton, FL, USA
He came up with New York in 1925 and went 14-12 with a 3.72 earned run average in 1930 for a club that scored more runs than anyone in the league. He was never a rotation fixture there, buried behind a deep staff, and Boston bought him in 1933.
Twelve seasons gave him 63 wins against 56, a 4.75 earned run average, 1,066 innings and 45 complete games across four clubs. He pitched for the Red Sox for three seasons and finished with Cincinnati in 1939 at thirty-three.
He worked as a scout and in the minor leagues after his playing career ended. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1982, at seventy-six.
