Germany Schaefer Marquee

Schaefer played 153 games for Detroit in 1908 and produced career highs of 151 hits, 96 runs and 40 stolen bases. Three years later with Washington he hit .334 with 147 hits, 74 runs and 57 walks, the best average of his career.

Fifteen seasons gave him 972 hits, 117 doubles, 201 stolen bases, 496 runs and a .257 average across 1,150 games. He played 588 games at second base but also at least 97 apiece at first base, third base and shortstop. He even made two pitching appearances.

Schaefer began with the Chicago Orphans, spent five seasons with Detroit and moved to Washington during 1909. His later years included the Federal League's Newark Peppers, the Yankees and Cleveland. Hall of Fame voters gave him one vote in both 1942 and 1953. He died in 1919, at forty-three.
