Ed Konetchy Marquee

b. September 3, 1885 · St. Louis Cardinals 1907–1913, Pittsburgh Pirates 1914, Pittsburgh Rebels 1915, Boston Braves 1916–1918, Brooklyn Robins 1919–1921, Philadelphia Phillies 1921

Fifteen seasons gave him 2,150 hits, 344 doubles, 182 triples, 255 stolen bases and a .281 average. He led the National League with 38 doubles in 1911 and hit .314 with 181 hits for the Pittsburgh Rebels of the Federal League in 1915, the last year that league existed.

He was the best first baseman in the National League for most of the 1910s by the fielding measures of the time and led the league's first basemen in assists five times. Seven of the seasons were in St. Louis.

He worked in a candy factory as a boy, which is where the strength came from by his own account, and hit ten home runs in a game in a minor-league season in 1930 at forty-four. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1947, at sixty-one.
