He went 18-13 in 1920 and 20-18 in 1921 for Browns clubs that finished fourth and third behind Babe Ruth's Yankees, and the 1922 Browns came within a game of the pennant with him as one of the mainstays of the rotation. He had bounced among three other clubs for six years before St. Louis gave him a permanent rotation spot at thirty.
Ten seasons gave him 75 wins against 71, a 3.97 earned run average, 1,318 innings, 77 complete games and 10 shutouts. Nearly all of the good years came in his thirties, with St. Louis, after his twenties had produced almost nothing.
He finished with the Browns in 1926 at thirty-six. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1944, at fifty-three.
