Schofield's one full season as a regular came with Pittsburgh in 1963. He played 138 games, collected a career-high 133 hits, scored 54 runs and drew 69 walks while hitting .246. Most of the rest of his career came in smaller roles.
Nineteen consecutive seasons gave him 699 hits, 113 doubles, 394 runs, 390 walks and a .227 average across 1,321 games. He played 660 games at shortstop, 159 at second base and 95 at third, with 11 appearances in the outfield.
St. Louis brought Schofield up in 1953 and sent him to Pittsburgh during 1958. He later moved through San Francisco, the Yankees and the Dodgers during 1965 and 1966, then played for Boston. A final 1971 season split between St. Louis and Milwaukee completed his career. He died in 2022, at eighty-seven.
