He went 20-8 with a 2.48 earned run average in 2015 and won the Cy Young Award with 22 of the 30 first-place votes, and won the wild card game at Yankee Stadium that October with six shutout innings. He gave up almost nothing in the air: the sinker produced ground balls at a rate nobody in his era matched.
Thirteen seasons gave him 103 wins against 92, a 4.04 earned run average, 1,642 innings and 1,254 strikeouts, with five Gold Gloves and two All-Star selections. He won the World Series with Houston in 2017 and started three games of it.
He was a seventh-round pick out of Arkansas and threw 88 miles an hour. When the velocity fell below that the career ended quickly: he was released three times in his last three seasons. He is not yet on a Hall of Fame ballot.
