New York Lincoln Stars

The Lincoln Stars formed in 1914 when players and backers split from the New York Lincoln Giants, and lasted three seasons at a recorded 39-36. The two clubs played each other repeatedly and the rivalry is most of what the surviving accounts describe.

Three Hall of Famers played here in three seasons: John Henry Lloyd, who managed in 1915; Oscar Charleston; and Louis Santop. That is a considerable roster for a club nobody now remembers, and it is a fair indication of how concentrated Black baseball's talent was in New York before the leagues organized.

Home was the Lenox Oval in Harlem. The recorded figures cover a fraction of the games played, independent results having been reported irregularly. The club folded in 1916 and most of its players returned to the Lincoln Giants.
