Cuban Stars East

The Cuban Stars of the East had no home ballpark and no home city. They traveled for fourteen seasons, playing every game away, because no eastern club would rent them a ground on the terms a resident club got. The recorded record is 197-248, on surviving box scores rather than a complete count.

Alex Pompez ran the club and recruited in Cuba, bringing players north who could not enter the white major leagues on account of color and who found in the Negro leagues both a living and a limit. He later ran the New York Cubans and scouted Latin America for the Giants.

Martín Dihigo played here and is in the Hall of Fame in the United States, Cuba and Mexico — he pitched and played every other position, which nobody else of his standing did. Pelayo Chacón managed for eleven seasons.
