Martín Dihigo Marquee Hall of Fame 1977

b. May 25, 1905 · Cuban Stars East 1923–1927, Homestead Grays 1928, Hilldale Club 1929–1931, Baltimore Black Sox 1931, New York Cubans 1935–1936, 1945

The record has him at every position on the field. He pitched 64 games and went 26-19 with 244 strikeouts, played 130 in the outfield, 119 at shortstop, 84 at first base, 61 at third, 54 at second and one behind the plate. Nobody else in this archive with a real career did that.

Batting, he had 439 hits, 68 home runs and 312 runs batted in over 402 recorded games from 1923 to 1945, an average of .307, and he led his league in home runs in 1926, 1927 and 1929. He was chosen for two East-West All-Star games. Three further seasons in independent ball fall outside the count.

He was Cuban, and the larger part of his career was played in Cuba and Mexico, which this archive does not record at all. He is in the Cuban and Mexican halls of fame as well as this one. The Hall of Fame elected him in 1977 through its Negro Leagues committee, six years after he died.

Seasons outside MLB's recognized major leagues appear in All seasons, but not in Major leagues or the leaderboards. For Martín Dihigo, that is 1928–1931. Why totals can differ.
