Vinny Castilla Marquee

b. July 4, 1967 · Atlanta Braves 1991–1992, 2002–2003, Colorado Rockies 1993–1999, 2004, 2006, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2000–2001, Houston Astros 2001, Washington Nationals 2005, San Diego Padres 2006

He hit 40 home runs in 1996, 40 in 1997 and 46 in 1998, when he also had 206 hits and 144 runs batted in. Denver's altitude is the first thing anyone says about those numbers and it is a fair thing to say; it is also true that he hit 320 home runs in sixteen seasons and that six other clubs employed him.

He came back to Colorado at thirty-six in 2004 and led the National League with 131 runs batted in. Sixteen seasons gave him 1,884 hits, 349 doubles, 1,105 runs batted in and a .276 average, with three Silver Sluggers and two All-Star selections.

He was Mexican, signed out of Oaxaca, and played shortstop before Colorado moved him across the diamond. Atlanta left him unprotected in the 1992 expansion draft and Colorado took him, which is the whole beginning of it. He has worked for the Rockies since he stopped. The 2012 ballot gave him six votes of 573.
