Tony Taylor Marquee

b. December 19, 1935 · Chicago Cubs 1958–1960, Philadelphia Phillies 1960–1971, 1974–1976, Detroit Tigers 1971–1973

Chicago traded him to Philadelphia in May 1960 and he played fifteen seasons there across two spells, through the 1964 collapse and the 100-loss years around it. Nineteen seasons gave him 2,007 hits, 298 doubles, 86 triples, 234 stolen bases and a .261 average.

He was Cuban, from Central Alava, and reached the major leagues in 1958. He was an All-Star in 1960 and had 180 hits in 1963, and he was the second baseman on the 1972 club that was the worst in the league and drew people anyway.

The Phillies retired no number for him but put him in their Wall of Fame, and he coached in the organization for two decades. He died in 2020, at eighty-four. The 1982 ballot gave him no votes at all.
