Bauers established himself with Pittsburgh in 1937, going 13-6 with a 2.88 earned run average across 187 innings. He completed 11 of 19 starts, threw two shutouts and struck out 118. A year later he again won 13 and threw two shutouts while working 243 innings.
Eight seasons gave him a 31-30 record, six saves, 300 strikeouts and a 3.53 earned run average in 599 innings. He started 71 of his 129 appearances, completed 27 games and threw four shutouts. The 1937 and 1938 seasons supplied more than 70 percent of his career innings.
Bauers pitched for Pittsburgh from 1936 through 1941, with his workload declining sharply after 1938. He returned after four seasons away to make seven appearances for the Cubs in 1946. Four final relief outings for the St. Louis Browns in 1950 ended his career. He died in 1995, at eighty.
