Robin Ventura Marquee

In the fifteenth inning of the fifth game of the 1999 Championship Series, in the rain at Shea Stadium, he hit the ball over the fence with the bases loaded and was mobbed between first and second before he could finish running. The winning run had scored, the rest could not, and it is recorded as a single. Everyone calls it the grand slam single.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,885 hits, 294 home runs, 1,182 runs batted in, 1,075 walks and a .267 average, with six Gold Gloves at third base and two All-Star selections. His best year was 1999 in New York: 32 home runs and 120 runs batted in.

He had a 58-game hitting streak at Oklahoma State, which is still the college record, and a broken and dislocated ankle in spring training in 1997 that people who saw it do not describe in detail. He managed the White Sox for five seasons afterward. The 2010 ballot gave him seven votes of 539.
