Raúl Ibañez Marquee

Raúl Ibañez was a 36th-round pick who came up as a catcher and did not hold a regular job in the majors until he was twenty-nine. He then played until he was forty-two and hit 305 home runs.

Seattle drafted and discarded him twice: three years in Kansas City in between turned him into a corner outfielder who could hit, and he returned to the Mariners in 2004 for five productive seasons. Philadelphia signed him for 2009, and his first year there brought his only All-Star selection and a National League pennant.

Born in New York City in 1972 to Cuban parents and raised in Miami, Ibañez finished with 2,034 hits and 1,207 runs batted in, playing his last season across Kansas City and Anaheim in 2014.
