In the twelfth inning of the third game of the 2003 Division Series, with the bases loaded and two out, he laid down a bunt that nobody was expecting and Oakland won. It is among the strangest endings a postseason game has had and it is the first thing said about him.
Fifteen seasons gave him 1,345 hits, 262 doubles, 169 home runs, 757 runs batted in and a .263 average, with an All-Star selection in 2003. He hit 23 home runs with 91 runs batted in for Baltimore in 2006.
He was Venezuelan, signed at seventeen, and caught for six clubs. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
