Paul Blair Marquee

b. February 1, 1944 · Baltimore Orioles 1964–1976, New York Yankees 1977–1980, Cincinnati Reds 1979

Paul Blair played center field for the Baltimore Orioles for thirteen seasons before finishing his career with three years split between the Yankees and, briefly, the Reds, retiring in 1980.

He batted .250 with 1,513 hits over 1,947 games, hitting 134 home runs and stealing 171 bases, a genuinely complete defensive outfielder's game.

His defense earned him eight Gold Gloves between 1967 and 1975, an exceptional run at a demanding position, and he was a Sporting News All-Star twice.

Two All-Star selections came in 1969 and 1973, both years falling within his long run of consecutive Gold Gloves. He came from Cushing, Oklahoma, where he was born on February 1, 1944, and he lived until December 26, 2013, thirty-three years after his final game.
