He saved 40 games with a 2.73 earned run average for the 2010 Rangers at twenty-two and took the Rookie of the Year award with 122 points of 140 and 20 of the first-place votes. Texas won the pennant that year and the next.
In the ninth inning of the sixth game of the 2011 World Series, with Texas ahead by two and one strike from the championship, he gave up a two-run triple to David Freese. St. Louis won that game in the eleventh and the Series the following night.
Texas moved him to the rotation in 2012 and his elbow gave out after eight starts. Ten seasons gave him 21 wins, 107 saves, 393 innings and a 3.55 earned run average for seven clubs, and he was never again what he had been at twenty-two. He is from Azua in the Dominican Republic and is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
