Marquis Grissom Marquee

b. April 17, 1967 · Montreal Expos 1989–1994, Atlanta Braves 1995–1996, Cleveland Indians 1997, Milwaukee Brewers 1998–2000, Los Angeles Dodgers 2001–2002, San Francisco Giants 2003–2005

He led the National League with 76 stolen bases in 1991 and 78 in 1992 for Montreal, and won four straight Gold Gloves in center field from 1993. Seventeen seasons gave him 2,251 hits, 429 stolen bases, 227 home runs, 386 doubles and a .272 average.

Atlanta traded for him after the 1994 strike and he caught the fly ball that ended the 1995 World Series, the only one that club has won in Atlanta. Two years later he was the most valuable player of the Championship Series for Cleveland, which then lost the World Series in seven.

He was one of fifteen children from a family in Atlanta, played college ball at Florida A&M as a pitcher, and was drafted as an outfielder in the third round. Six clubs used him and he played until he was thirty-eight. The 2011 ballot gave him four votes of 581.
