Lindy McDaniel Marquee

b. December 13, 1935 · St. Louis Cardinals 1955–1962, Chicago Cubs 1963–1965, San Francisco Giants 1966–1968, New York Yankees 1968–1973, Kansas City Royals 1974–1975

Lindy McDaniel pitched in the majors for twenty-one seasons, from 1955 to 1975, which meant he faced Stan Musial early and George Brett late. He appeared in 987 games, only 74 of them as a starter.

St. Louis signed him off the University of Oklahoma campus as a bonus baby and put him straight on the roster at nineteen. He led the National League in saves in 1959 and 1960, made his one All-Star team in the latter year, and led again in 1963 with the Cubs.

Born in Hollis, Oklahoma in 1935, McDaniel finished 141-119 with 172 saves and 1,361 strikeouts. He was eighty-four at his death, on November 14, 2020.
