Larry Gardner Marquee

He was Boston's third baseman for the championships of 1912, 1915 and 1916, and Cleveland's for the one in 1920. His sacrifice fly in the tenth inning of the eighth game of the 1912 World Series scored the run that won it.

Seventeen seasons gave him 1,931 hits, 301 doubles, 129 triples, 934 runs batted in and a .289 average. The best of it came late: 185 hits and 118 runs batted in at thirty-four, then 187 hits, 120 runs batted in and a .319 average at thirty-five.

He was from Enosburg Falls, Vermont, went to the University of Vermont, and went back there afterward to coach the baseball team for twenty-eight years and serve as athletic director. He died in 1976, at eighty-nine. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
