He caught 1,540 games, which is thirtieth on the all-time list, and was durable in a way the position rarely allows: 140 or more games in three seasons and 100 or more in nine. Sixteen seasons gave him 1,421 hits, 295 doubles, 143 home runs, 730 runs batted in and a .255 average.
He hit .264 with 17 home runs for the 2019 Washington club that won the World Series and homered in the second game of it. He was an All-Star in 2014 for Minnesota.
He was from Wailuku, Hawaii, and was drafted out of Cal State Fullerton in the second round. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
