Jeff Mathis Marquee

Mathis built a seventeen-season career almost entirely on catching. He played 914 games behind the plate while hitting .194, an unusually long tenure for a player whose offense never became his main value. His busiest season was 2008 with the Angels, when he played 94 games and drove in 42 runs.

He finished with 526 hits, 112 doubles, 53 home runs and 286 runs batted in across 951 games. The 55 hits and nine home runs he recorded in 2008 were career highs. Mathis also made five pitching appearances late in his career, working five innings and striking out two.

The Angels brought him to the majors in 2005 and employed him for seven seasons. He later caught for Toronto, Miami, Arizona, Texas and Atlanta, with four years in Miami his longest later stay. One final game for the Braves in 2021 completed a career spanning seventeen consecutive seasons.
