He went 18-11 in 2017 for Kansas City, which tied Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco for the most wins in the league, and he was chosen for the All-Star team at thirty-four. It was the only season of his career in which he won more than fourteen.
Fifteen seasons gave him 99 wins against 99 losses, 1,643 innings, a 4.29 earned run average and 1,147 strikeouts. He made 30 or more starts four times, threw a fastball that rarely reached 88 miles an hour and got by on a changeup and location.
He started 30 games for the Kansas City club that won the 2014 pennant, then made nine starts in 2015 before his elbow gave out; the Royals won the World Series that October while he was recovering. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
