In the seventeen-minute rain delay before the tenth inning of the seventh game of the 2016 World Series he gathered the club in the weight room and told them they were the best team in baseball. They scored two runs in the tenth and won the title.

He hit a home run in his first major-league at bat in 2010 and was second in the Rookie of the Year voting. Sixteen seasons have given him 1,575 hits, 186 home runs, 730 runs batted in, 706 walks and a .255 average, with five Gold Gloves in right field.

The bat never came back — he changed his swing repeatedly and hit .245 across the Chicago years — and the fielding kept him employed into his thirties. He is still playing.
