Thomas moved from Detroit to the Angels during 1961 and found his best power season. Across 96 games he hit 13 home runs, drove in 59 and scored 41, all career highs except games played. He returned to Detroit during 1963.
Thirteen seasons gave him 430 hits, 71 doubles, 46 home runs, 202 runs batted in and a .255 average across 685 games. His best hit total came with Detroit in 1964, when he collected 88 and hit .286 with 12 home runs.
Thomas first appeared for the Tigers in 1957 and 1958, then returned in 1961 before the trade to Los Angeles. Six seasons with Boston followed from 1966 through 1971. The Red Sox sent him to Minnesota during his final year. He played 481 games in the outfield and also appeared at third base, first base and catcher.
