Ed Brinkman Marquee

Ed Brinkman's career average was .224, and he stayed in the majors for fifteen years anyway. The glove was the reason. In 1972, his first season in Detroit, he committed seven errors all year and set records for consecutive errorless games at shortstop while winning a Gold Glove.

He signed with the Washington Senators out of a Cincinnati high school in 1961 — his teammate on that school team was Pete Rose — and spent a decade with the franchise before a trade brought him to the Tigers. His one All-Star selection came in 1973.

Brinkman played 1,845 games and finished with 1,355 hits and 60 home runs. Brinkman died on September 30, 2008, aged sixty-six.
