Duke Farrell Marquee

b. August 31, 1866 · Chicago White Stockings 1888–1889, Chicago Pirates 1890, Boston Reds 1891, Pittsburgh Pirates 1892, Washington Senators 1893, 1896–1899, New York Giants 1894–1896, Brooklyn Superbas 1899–1902, Boston Americans 1903–1905

He hit 12 home runs and drove in 110 runs for the Boston club in the American Association's last season, 1891, leading the league in both. He was twenty-four and had already played for three clubs in three leagues.

Eighteen seasons gave him 1,572 hits, 211 doubles, 123 triples, 916 runs batted in, 150 stolen bases and a .277 average, with 1,004 games behind the plate and 290 more at third base. He caught in the National League, the American Association, the Players' League and the American League.

He threw well enough that on May 11, 1897, he caught eight base stealers in a single game, which nobody has matched. He coached for the Boston Americans after he retired and scouted for them. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1925, at fifty-eight.
