Dontrelle Willis Marquee

He came up in May 2003, went 14-6, was Rookie of the Year with 118 points of 160, and won a game in the World Series Florida took from the Yankees. Two years later he went 22-10 with a 2.63 earned run average and five shutouts, the most wins and the most shutouts in the league, and finished second in the Cy Young voting.

The delivery was the thing people remember: the left knee up past his shoulder, the whole body turned away from the plate, and the ball coming from somewhere behind him. Nine seasons gave him 72 wins against 69, a 4.17 earned run average, 1,221 innings and 15 complete games.

Detroit traded for him after 2007 and signed him for three years and $29 million, and he never found the plate again: 35 walks in 24 innings in 2008, an anxiety disorder that put him on the disabled list, and a 6.15 earned run average across four seasons for three clubs. He was done at twenty-nine. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
