He won the American League Cy Young Award in 2014 at twenty-eight, going 18-9 with 269 strikeouts, and again in 2017, when he went 18-4 with a 2.25 earned run average and took 28 of the 30 first-place votes. He finished third in the voting in 2016 and 2018 as well.
Thirteen seasons gave him 116 wins against 77, a 3.44 earned run average, 1,641 innings and 1,725 strikeouts, with three All-Star selections. He came to Cleveland in a three-club trade in 2010 as a minor-league throw-in and was not a full-time starter until he was twenty-seven.
A line drive broke his forearm in May 2019 and a shoulder tear cost him 2020, and he was never the same. He threw a no-hitter for the Yankees in May 2021 anyway. He was called Klubot for the expressionlessness. He is not yet on a Hall of Fame ballot.
