Charlie Jamieson

Charlie Jamieson Marquee

b. February 7, 1893 · Washington Senators 1915–1917, Philadelphia Athletics 1917–1918, Cleveland Indians 1919–1932

Charlie Jamieson came to Cleveland in 1919 and stayed fourteen years, batting .303 and scoring 1,062 runs from the top of the order. He was part of the 1920 club that won the franchise's first World Series, a season overshadowed by the death of shortstop Ray Chapman in August.

He had started out as a pitcher — thirteen appearances survive on his record — and converted to the outfield with Washington and Philadelphia before the trade that made him a regular. He twice made unassisted double plays from left field.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1893, Jamieson collected 1,990 hits and 748 walks across 1,779 games. He was seventy-six at his death in October 1969.
