Charles Zimmer Marquee

He was known as Chief and captained the Cleveland Spiders for eleven seasons through the 1890s, catching alongside Cy Young for most of that time. He hit 112 hits in 1891 and 97 in 1894, his best offensive years, in an era when catching was physically punishing enough to shorten most careers well before his lasted.

Nineteen seasons gave him 1,225 hits, 222 doubles, 617 runs batted in, 151 stolen bases and a .269 average, with 1,239 games behind the plate for seven clubs across four decades.

He managed the Phillies in 1903 to a 49-86 finish, his only season running a major-league club. The 1938 ballot gave him one vote of 262. He died in 1949, at eighty-eight.
